According to Politico, Congressman Glenn Thompson, chair of the House Agriculture Committee, reportedly dismissed Pennsylvanians calling about the Farm Bill and pesticide liability shield, saying:
“The people that may be calling are extremists…some people are misguided.”
Let’s be clear: Parents, farmers, health professionals, and concerned citizens who care about clean food, clean water, and consumer transparency are not extremists. To the contrary, we have valid concerns over provisions that protect pesticide manufacturers and leave consumers with no recourse after suffering harm.
URGENT DEVELOPMENT
We have learned that the Farm Bill is expected to be up for a vote the week of April 27th. Yet again, Americans were given a very short window to make their voices heard.
There are multiple amendments proposed to remove the liability shield, but Amendment 301 in particular would stop some of the most harmful provisions in the bill.
