Fluoride Choice Act

Fluoride Choice Act

Since 1945, municipalities have added fluoride to public water, following studies that showed reduced tooth decay in communities with fluoridated water compared to those without; however, over time, many have begun to question whether this practice was safe or not.

In 2024, the National Toxicology Program within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services published a report entitled “The State of the Science Concerning Fluoride Exposure and Neurodevelopment and Cognition: A Systematic Review”. The study determined that there is an inverse association between fluoridated water levels and cognitive development in children. In other words, in the studies that they reviewed for the report, children consuming fluoridated water seemed to have lower IQ levels. The authors of the report cautioned that more studies need to be conducted to verify the link. However, this report was enough to prompt water companies, municipalities, and even states across the country to make changes to practices. These are changes that many in the medical freedom and informed consent community have waited years to see happen!

Pennsylvania’s Wait IS OVER!

SB 849, The Fluoride Choice Act, has been introduced in the Pennsylvania State Senate by Senator Dawn Keefer. This bill would ban water companies from adding fluoride to public water! Adding fluoride to public water is a violation of informed consent. It’s time to make calls in order to show legislators in Harrisburg that we CARE about what is in our water.

📞 Calls to Make Today

  1. Call Senator Gene Yaw, the chairman of the Environmental Resources and Energy Committee – the committee currently holding the bill. Ask him to move the bill forward with a committee vote. His Harrisburg office number is (717) 787-3280.
  2. Call YOUR Pennsylvania State Senator and urge them to support SB 849, The Fluoride Choice Act. Not sure who is your state senator? Find out here.

🗣️ Talking Points for Discussing the Fluoride Choice Act (SB 849)

1. Informed Consent is a Fundamental Right

  • Adding fluoride to public water supplies removes the ability of individuals to choose what goes into their bodies.

  • Informed consent is a basic principle of medical ethics. No one should be medicated without their explicit permission.

  • Water fluoridation assumes a “one size fits all” dose — which is not appropriate for children, pregnant women, or people with certain medical conditions.

2. The Latest Science Raises Serious Concerns

  • In 2024, the National Toxicology Program (NTP) released a systematic review linking fluoride exposure in drinking water to potential reductions in childhood IQ.

  • The NTP found an inverse relationship between water fluoride levels and cognitive development in children.

3. Fluoride is Readily Available Without Mandating It in Water

  • Anyone who wants fluoride can access it easily through toothpaste, mouthwash, and dental treatments.

  • There’s no need to force mass medication through the public water supply when alternatives are cheap and accessible.

4. Water Fluoridation is Outdated and Unnecessary

  • When fluoridation began in 1945, dental care and public health were far different. Today, access to dental hygiene and fluoride products is widespread.

  • Most developed countries do not fluoridate their water and still have similar or better dental health outcomes than the U.S.
