Parents Stand Against Legislator’s Attempt to Legalize Minor Consent for Vaccinations in PA

On Wednesday, May 26, members of the The Pennsylvania Coalition for Informed Consent, along with other concerned citizens and groups from Southeastern PA, gathered on the hot and crowded sidewalk of Main Street in Norristown to voice their opposition to Senator Amanda Cappelletti’s legislative effort that would allow children to make vaccine choices without their parents’ consent or knowledge.

Just steps outside of Senator Cappelletti’s office, these passionate advocates for parental rights and family values took turns speaking through the megaphone about why this issue was worth taking time out of their lives to stand against.

PCIC team leader Charmaine Rusin opened the event with a prayer for the protection of God’s divine institution of the family.  She later posed the critical questions, “Will these legislators be the ones to change the diapers of adult children who were brain damaged from a vaccine?  Will they be the shoulder for these young girls to cry on later in life when they experience miscarriage after miscarriage as a result of these vaccines? No, they won’t.” No vaccine has ever been tested for possible effects on fertility or potential carcinogenicity.

“I do not co-parent with the government!” one mother told the crowd. Others questioned what motive could compel a person to want to remove parents from the process of making potentially deadly medical decisions for children, asking “What’s in it for you, Amanda?”

Several Hispanic moms in attendance spoke of the problems unique to minority and low-income communities that are disproportionately targeted by government and pharmaceutical proponents who push vaccines on under-educated families without providing comprehensive risk information.  Spanish-speaking communities are especially vulnerable because of the lack of adequate information available in their native language.  PCIC volunteers are working to address this need by translating educational materials for native Spanish speakers.

Practicing medicine on children without their parents’ involvement poses immense danger to the children and community.  Should a child suffer a serious adverse event following their secret vaccination, parents and emergency personnel will not know the cause, leaving them clueless as to how to properly treat the patient. Lamenting over one school district’s celebration of their high number of Covid-19 vaccinated children, one perceptive parent pointed out that, “Ten, twenty years ago, if someone would have attempted to perform medical experimentation on children without their parents’ consent, they would have been considered criminally insane.”

The proposed legislation that spurred this parental ire is one that has been unsuccessfully introduced in other states. State legislators across the U.S. respected parents by rejecting a total of 33 minor consent bills filed in 2019 and 2020. Many Pennsylvania parents were shocked to learn this week that minor consent for vaccines has been in place in the City of Philadelphia since 2007, and was also recently adopted by the legislative body of the District of Columbia.  These regulations in Philadelphia and D.C. allow children as young as 11 to make medical decisions that can permanently alter their physiology, cause known and unknown harm, and even carry the risk of death. The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, in collaboration with the Philadelphia Department of Health, advertised Covid-19 vaccine clinics for children this week, including prominently on the flyer and social media graphics that, “You can bring a parent or guardian if you want, but it isn’t required!”

These same children cannot drive, vote, or even be taken on a school field trip without parental permission, but the government-PHARMA collusion has afforded them permission to make potentially deadly medical decisions.

Parents, grandparents, and citizens who work with children are appropriately outraged that this first-term legislator is kicking off her tenure with an extremist proposition that does not seek to serve her constituents. Instead, Senator Cappelletti starts right out of the gate with this overt promotion of nationally coordinated partisan attacks on the authority and traditional role of the parents.  This proposal is in direct contradiction with Pennsylvania’s historic and consistent affirmation of the high value of parental influence and the societal benefit of strong family units. Senator Cappelletti, in a meeting with constituents, expressed her desire to change these long-held standards.  It seems that she views traditional family values as outdated, and feels called to liberate children from the oppression of parents so that children can have full bodily autonomy.  We can only wonder what else the senator would allow children to consent to.

Not only is it an unethical and egregious assault on parental roles and rights, but this bill would violate several existing legal protections for children.  If written similarly to the DC bill, it can lead to criminal violations and civil liability lawsuits by requiring vaccine administrators to falsify records in order to conceal the child’s vaccination status.  Coupled with the potential violation of existing religious exemption rights of parents, and the fact that consistent Supreme Court precedent has held that parents have both the duty and the right to direct the care, custody, and control of their minor children, this proposal will certainly invite litigation.

Pennsylvania’s parents are asking the Senator to retract her co-sponsorship memo that states her intention to legislate minor consent for vaccination.  PCIC’s thousands of members and supporters urge all other Pennsylvania legislators to continue to respect the parents of PA and reject this and any similar legislation that infringes upon parental authority and endangers the health and wellbeing of children.
